Jose Allende is a versatile guitarist, arranger, composer and teacher. His style is unique and personal to his international musical perspective, bringing latin rhythms and classical guitar into his jazz performance.
Jose was born in Lima, Peru and began playing guitar at the age of eight. Originally a self-taught guitarist and musician, he later took lessons in harmony, technique and jazz from Peruvian greats Eloy La Rocha and Andres Prado. He also counts Jon Damian of Berklee School of Music and Danilo Perez of the New England Conservatory among his teachers here in Boston. He holds a Master's Degree in Modern American Music, encompassing jazz, latin, classical & free music performance, from Longy School of Music in Cambridge. At Longy Jose studied jazz guitar with Joe Morris and classical guitar with David Patterson.
Jose has worked as a musician and educator in Lima and in several cities and states in the US, from Chicago to Boston, performing at events, concerts and festivals.
He was a member of a quintet invited to give a clinic on Afro-Peruvian Jazz Music at International Association of Jazz Educators in Long Beach, CA, featuring the drummer Alex Acuna.
Jose has also had the fortune of performing with musicians including Miki Matsuki, Jorge Roeder, Santiago Bosch, Jorge Perez-Albela, Youngchae Young, Ana Petrova, Kristalis Sotomayor, Ciara Moser, Hidemi Akaiwa, Gen Yoshimura, Renato Malavasi, Ivanna Cuesta, John Lockwood and Oscar Stagnaro.
Using both nylon acoustic and electric guitars, Jose blends Latin American rhythms, like tango, Afro-Peruvian and Brazilian, with contemporary jazz harmonies and different meters to create his own style and compositions.
Jose is currently performing and teaching jazz, South-American music, latin styles and classical guitar around the New England area.
